Last week I mentioned that there are a number of incredible groups, clubs, and other organizations for students looking to get involved on campus. This week I would like to really go in depth with one particular group that is active all year long in providing fun activities all across campus. From Grocery Bingo to concerts, Winona State UPAC is always looking to give fun, exciting opportunities to all of the students on campus. UPAC is the University Programming Activities Committee and you wouldn’t believe the events they have put on in the past. Freshmen are introduced to them early each year with the events of Welcome Week, which this year included a comedy act, a hypnotist show and The Johnny Holm Band.
One of my favorite experiences with UPAC comes from this year’s welcome week. All three events were the highlights of the week and because the events were free I was able to attend each event with friends and just kick back for the night and have a good time without it burning a hole in my pocket. UPAC always makes prices easy to afford like the Twins game events, which tend to be all inclusive of bus ride and game ticket for the small price of $10. I think their events sell themselves.his is only a small sample of the great things they do for our students at WSU.
Like I said earlier, UPAC is also responsible for include bus trips to the Cities for Twins, Gophers, and Minnesota Wild games or to see plays or musicals. If you want to stick a little closer to campus, UPAC organizes discounted bowling nights at Winona bowling alleys and sponsors $3 Movie Night at the Winona 7, the next of which is on Sept. 27th. Not to mention the always-enjoyable Spring Concert that is usually announced just after returning from Winter break. Last spring, UPAC brought in Phillip Phillips and the year before that The Band Perry came to the WSU campus.
You can expect to find events sponsored by UPAC every month, but even more exciting is that anybody can join UPAC and help put together events, voicing your opinions and ideas of what the student body at Winona State want to have. We should be thankful to have such an incredible organization here on campus. To find out more about UPAC and their events you can visit the UPAC office in the lower hyphen of Kryzko Commons or visit their Facebook page.
